The featured Talbot Hotel Carlow Chase in Gowran Park went the way of 9/1 chance Drumconnor Lad representing Adrian Keatley and 7lb-claimer Liam Gilligan.
The eight-year-old gelding soon tracked front-running Last Goodbye and got on terms after the penultimate fence in this two and a half mile race.
Last Goodbye made a mistake at the last and Drumconnor Lad forged on to win by three and three quarter lengths.
Last Goodbye took plenty of merit in second at 11/2, on his first run since April.
Trainer Adrian Keatley said: “We were delighted with his last run and I was glad they re-opened this race. He was in good fettle so we said we’d let him run.
“There is a nice chase in Navan coming up in a couple of weeks’ time that he’ll go for next, and then we can look at something over Christmas.
“A step up in trip will probably suit him in time. He wouldn’t mind soft ground but he probably wouldn’t want real heavy ground.”
