Spot Fine who has been placed fifteen times, finally got off the mark as he took the last at Sligo, the St Angela’s College Sligo Beginners Chase, providing his trainer Mouse Morris with a double (coming in at 26/1) on the card.

The eight-year-old son of Kayf Tara was last seen finishing a well-beaten third in a maiden hurdle at Kilbeggan in June.

Having his fifth start over fences today he was sent off an 8/1 chance under David Casey.

He made virtually all and while he was joined briefly entering the straight he regained the outright lead at the last and kept on well under pressure on the run-in to just hold on by a nose. Time Please who was sent off the 8/11 favourite, was the one who was chasing him down, but he had settle for second under Mark Walsh for Edward O’Grady.

Morris said afterwards: "He deserved it. An inch is as good as a mile to him!"
