It may have taken Diamondgeezer Luke 41 races to get off the mark, but he made it two in-a-row in Division 2 of the two and a half mile handicap hurdle at Bellewstown.
Racing to the second last, the spoils seemed destined for Diamondgeezer Luke or Curragh Golan but the latter walked through that flight and yielded the lead to Diamondgeezer Luke.
From there Andrew Ring grabbed the race by the scruff of the neck and drove his mount on to win by four lengths at 7/1. Curragh Golan kept on for second at 10/1. Valours Minion came from off the pace into third at 10/1 while Mon Carlos pipped Valley Of Stars to fourth at 12/1.
Trainer Flan Costello, who owns Costello’s Tavern in Limerick City and who has been there for over 40 years, said: “I suppose we’ll go to Galway now. He’s entitled to now after winning his last two.”
