Deserved Win for Decoy at Gowran
Designated Decoy made it sixth time lucky and brought to an end a sequence of four second placings when stylishly getting off the mark in the Brickana Maiden. In the process four-time Champion Jockey Pat Smullen moved five ahead in his quest for another title.
The 5/4 favourite led just before the straight and there soon wasn't much doubt about the result as the Danzig colt went away to beat Liberty Eclipse by five lengths.
Dermot Weld and his family are in Australia to supervise Profound Beauty's Melbourne Cup bid and stable representative Paddy 'Whacker' O'Brien said: "He has been unlucky and was well overdue that. I'm not sure about plans for him now but he did that well."
