New Approach got his career as a Stallion off to the best possible start as his first runner Dawn Approach took the opening race of the 2012 Flat Turf Season, the Tally-Ho Stud EBF Maiden over five furlongs, for trainer his Jim Bolger with Kevin Manning aboard.

Sent off the even money favourite the chestnut colt tracked the leader Granny On Fire in the early stages. Canary Row then hit the front two furlong from home before the winner came with his challenge and soon took up the lead approaching the final furlong, staying on well to score by a length and three parts.

The aforementioned Canary Row for Patrick Prendergast and Niall McCullagh kept on for second at 10/1 while the Ballydoyle newcomer Forester was a further head back in third under Joseph O’Brien at the odds of 9/4.

Winning trainer Jim Bolger said afterwards: "Well it’s good to see you all again! (the press).

"I was hoping he would win it but you never know what is in them races.

"He is a very laid back colt, a bit different to his old man. He will improve a lot and when he goes up in trip. I wouldn’t be getting carried away with him.

"Hopefully we will be back here in September with him (for the National Stakes)."

Bolger went on to talk about his other 2yo's saying: "I have a few good lookers and about a dozen New Approach's."

Bolger & Manning were recording their second successive victory in this race having won it last year with Whip Rule.
