Jockey Shane Crosse completed a double at Limerick today as his mount Bajan Excell showed the benefit of stepping up in trip when landing the Munster National Tomorrow Apprentice Handicap for trainer Gavin Cromwell.
The gelded son of Helmet had previously failed to place in three handicap starts at a mile-1m1f but today saw out the 1m3f trip well well when scoring a half length win over Indian Eye
Cromwell was at Fairyhouse and following the win his assistant Feidhlim Cunningham stated “the step up in trip helped him big-time and he likes the ease in the ground.
“He ran better at Gowran last time and we'll probably go juvenile hurdling now. Shane [Crosse] gave him a good ride, they went quick enough in front, which helped.”
