Grade 1 fourth placer Cashelard Lady has advertised Shane Crawley's training ability this year. Another mare, Lily Yeats added to her gains from over at Bangor in May, to land the Flynn Hotel Group Mares Handicap Hurdle at Tramore under Chris Timmons.
A second winner on the evening for the four time Ascot Gold Cup winning sire, Yeats, following on from Sir Jack Yeats in the opener, Lily Yeats edged away to her left on the run-in but she still had five lengths in hand over Trendy Nurse at the finish.
"She is buzzy enough so we put the hood on her and it worked anyway. When we were going through Waterford town I had to get into the box with her to settle her down, she was very buzzed up," revealed Crawley.
"It was her first handicap and she is game. She stayed on well and she stayed on well at Bangor as well. The race at Kilbeggan probably came too soon for her and it was a hot enough race.
"There was some horses rated a lot higher than her, and she isn't of that calibre. I don't know what the handicapper will do now, she might get into another 109, but if she can get into another 116 it'll be grand.
"I think claiming off her helps as she is a small mare and Chris Timmons is good value for his claim. He has a good brain on him.
"She is owned by Paddy McKeon from Naas. He has a few horses with a few different trainers. He has Presenting Mahler and Casimir Road."
Meanwhile Crawley further disclosed: "Cashelard Lady is in-foal. We put her in-foal to Milan. She would have had to race against some top class mares like Annie Power and Jer's Girl next season, so we just took a chance and sent her to stud with her black-type got."
P.A. Gallagher, rider of Give Her Bach trained by Patrick Cronin, reported to the Stewards' Secretaries that his mount lost her action and was pulled up.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined Give Her Bach, trained by Patrick Cronin, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
The Stewards interviewed A.W. Short, rider of Grand Tour (GB), concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3(b), in that he used the whip unnecessarily when his chance had gone and having considered his clean record, cautioned him concerning his future responsibilities in this regard.
