The George Webb trained Cosmic Symbol followed-up on his win at Gowran last Monday, as he took the Ballaghaderreen Handicap.
The son of Amadeus Wolf clearly appreciated the testing conditions at the Co Kilkenny venue, and with the ground again in his favour he was sent off a 9/2 joint-favourite (from 5s).
Settled behind the leaders by Keith Moriarty he was ridden with over two furlongs to race, and was soon switched to the outer to challenge.
He got to the front at the furlong pole, and kept on well from there, going on to score comfortably by three and a quarter lengths. Aspen Belle finished second at 8/1 under Leigh Roche for Pat Martin, while 25/1 chance Sartori was another half a length back in third with Declan McDonogh in the saddle for Michael Cleary. Punches Pious who was favourite in early shows, proved easy to back on-course, and he finished fifth, while the other joint-favourite, Jackie Ellis was a place behind in sixth.
The winner is owned by the Lois Dearg Rangers Partnership, and was sold for just E550 at Goresbridge in July of 2014.
He is a half-brother to Marvada who won a Group 3 on heavy ground at Naas for Ken Condon back in 2012.
