Bred by the late Joyce Kavanagh at Bucksbridge Stud in County Wexford, 13/8 favourite Hostage To Fortune delivered in the GowranPark.ie Beginners Chase.
Barry Connell ’s fledgling training operation continues to produce the goods, and his regular jockey Mark Bolger steered home this well-backed Jeremy gelding.
Eventual runner-up Exit To The West threatened danger until late on, but Hostage To Fortune asserted in the closing stages to win by three and a half lengths.
“The bit of experience he had in better company obviously stood to him. He’s rated low over hurdles but is a fine big horse and is a chaser,” said Connell.
“He’s not over quick and that’s his job — winter ground and big fences.
“We’ll probably keep him going handicap chasing. He has a mark of 95 over hurdles and you’d say he’ll win off that but it doesn’t always work out that way.
“It’s good to get that win and we have a few options with him.”
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Midland Millie trained by A.L.T.Moore, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
T. Ryan, rider of Red Lemonade trained by W.J.Austin, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his saddle slipped jumping the fourth last.
