Clearwater completes Murtagh treble
Clearwater Bay proved the perfect end to a good night for Johnny Murtagh as he completed a treble for the champion in the concluding maiden at Galway.
The Sadler's Wells colt chased leader Perfect Gemstone throughout but Murtagh had to niggle his mount along from some way out.
The 1/3 shot got to the front entering the straight and really started to motor on the run to the line, going on for an eight length success.
"He's a big green horse and is still a bit raw. It's a hard track for a horse without experience," said Murtagh of the Ballydoyle charge.
"He was pulling away when he met the up hill finish. He could be a nice stayer and there is loads more to come from him.
"It was a great day. Any day you get three is a bonus."
