Adrian McAllister registered his second winner as a trainer since the sad passing of his employer Lady Jane Gillespie in May, as the northern based handler saddled Bien Chase to win the Purchase Fairyhouse Tickets Online Handicap at Fairyhouse today, under jockey Bill Lee.
Lee, who lies just two winners behind Jockeys’ Championship leader Kevin Manning (34-32), was also on board McAllister’s Dasheen who poignantly won at Gowran on May 23, just two days following the death of Lady Jane Gillespie and today landed Bien Chase’s nose perfectly on the line, for a bunch-finish, head win over Duncan Of Scotland
McAllistar, formerly Gillespie’s assistant trainer but now in possession of his training license, today commented “he was second at Down Royal the last day when he was just caught late on and Billy (Lee) thought the drop back of a furlong would be the making of him.
“He was running over much longer trips, and it’s hard to credit that six furlongs is what he wants. He should still be off a low enough mark, and hopefully can win another one.”
