Charterhouse opened his account at the third attempt when justifying odds-on support in the Irish EBF Median Sires Series Maiden at the Curragh.

The John Murphy-trained colt had shown plenty of promise when just denied on debut by the well-regarded Masen at Leopardstown and subsequently wasn’t beaten far when fourth in the Group 3 Tyros Stakes at the same venue.

Robbie Colgan ’s mount tracked the pace-setting Allagar in this seven furlongs event, and soon settled the issue when ridden clear inside the final furlong.

The son of Charming Thought scored by two and three quarter lengths from A Taad Moody who kept on well in the closing stages to deny Allagar the runner-up spot.

George Murphy, son and assistant to the winning trainer, said “I’m very happy with that. It was straight forward enough and the filly brought him along at a good gallop which suited.

“He has a few nice entries so we’ll see how he comes out of this and speak to the owners to make a plan from here.”
