After 'just failing' over the the course and distance last week, Centrifolia got a deserved win to her name in the Thomastown Handicap.

The Joe Murphy trained daughter of Dark Angel went down by a short head here eight day ago, and was well-fancied to go one place better this afternoon.

Sent off the 7/2 favourite, the grey three-year-old was settled in mid-division by Gary Carroll, and was ridden to challenge from the two furlong pole.

She got to the front a furlong from home, and kept on well from there to beat Royal Navy Warship by a length and three parts.

The runner-up was returned at 6/1 under Donnacha O'Brien for his father Aidan, while top-weight St Gallen (16/1) was another three parts of a length back in third, with Colin Keane aboard this one for John Murphy. King Of Leinster (22/1), who led approaching the straight, completed the placings another four and half length back in fourth.

Murphy said afterwards: "She's a very well-bred filly and it's great for her pedigree that she has won. I think there is more to come and she can improve after that.

"She may go to Galway."

The winner was bought by owner Chantal Regalado Gonzalez for 200,000 guineas as a yearling, and she is out of Araqella who is a full-sister to Aqlaam.
