After three second placers in recent times for Eddie Cawley, the County Meath-based trainer struck today with the Chris Timmons-ridden Golden Jewel in the Ardstone Homes Supporting Kill GAA Handicap Hurdle at Naas.
The well-backed 5/1 co-favourite looked a little vulnerable away from two out where he made a mistake, as top-weight Stowaway Forever moved up going well.
However Golden Jewel scampered away from the last to score by six lengths.
"He ran plenty free but he's that sort of little horse and even at home he's like that," said Cawley.
"He did it well. I thought when he made the mistake two out he was in trouble but he still pulled it out.
"He seemed to love the ground and when I saw beforehand how good it was I was delighted and thought he'd have a chance.
"I've been hitting the crossbar recently, and had three seconds, so it's time one came home."
D.J. Mullins, rider of Sparky Stowaway trained by Thomas Mullins, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake at the third last and was pulled up thereafter.
The Irish Horseracing Regulatory Board Veterinary Officer examined Sparky Stowaway, trained by Thomas Mullins, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
