Three year old Eloso (5/1) got off the mark at the 15th career attempt, all in 2021, in the Story Of Dundalk Stadium Apprentice Maiden at Dundalk today, scoring for trainer Richard O’Brien and jockey Scott McCullagh.
The busy son of Kodi Bear made his career debut on January 22 over today's course and distance and while since twice beaten a short-head, today got off the mark with a neck win over the slightly wayward runner-up Faron
O’Brien later commented “that’s his fifteenth run this year. We took a breather and he had 33 days between his last run and this, which I think helped a lot.
“Scott was brilliant on him. I didn’t hold him down to anything but he had it in his head that he was going to take his time and it suited the horse very well.
“His future might be in England. He might be a fun horse for someone on the all-weather over there.”
Eloso carries the colours of Frank Lynch, who owns him in partnership with Michael Hartnett, Willie O’Brien and Aidan O’Brien.
