The opening race at Cork this afternoon, the Paddy Power Mobile Betting 3yo Maiden Hurdle went to the 2/5 favourite Brog Deas
The Pat Flynn trained gelded son of Arakan was a decent performer on the level and won three times before he made an encouraging debut over hurdles at Thurles last month, when finishing second to Everything Zain.
Despite being sent off at odds-on he was made to work for his victory today by the Austin Leahy trained Danequest
The pair had a good battle from after the second last with Brog Deas getting on top on the run-in to score by a length and three parts.
Danequest had to settle for second under Niall Madden at 6/1 while Hazariban was third at 20/1 under Kevin Sexton for Seamus Fahey a further two and three parts of a length back.
Winning trainer Pat Flynn said afterwards: "That was great. He likes better ground but he did it well. On good to yielding ground he will be a very good horse.
"He is only getting used to hurdles now. The ground will determine where he will go now. If it is goodish he will go to Leopardstown for the Graded Juvenile Hurdle there."
