Bob beats Johnny in the last stride
Aidan Howard's Ihaventabob with Davy Russell sporting the familiar Tom Miley colours, got up on the line to short head Flying Johnny M in the Kerry Petroleum Handicap Steeplechase at Listowel.
The latter looked like he had enough done only to be denied with the last gasp effort of Ihaventabob. Gambled-on favourite, Money Belt (6s in the morning into 7/2) could do no better than tenth.
Russell said: "I was pretty sure I was beaten but just when we passed the stands he heard the crowd and got up in the very last stride."
Jenny Lynch, representing Aidan Howard, said: "He was coming here three weeks off the back of winning in Cartmel. He went over there for soft ground which we couldn't get in Ireland. The big fences here suited him as he jumps very well.
"Sean McDermott took another ride in the race so we went looking for Davy then as he wasn't going to ride in the race at all."
Unfortunately Sean McDermott took a heavy fall from Curragh Grey at the first and he was taken to Tralee hospital with a back injury.
