Henry de Bromhead added to his Plate gains, whilst for J P McManus and Barry Geraghty there was further joy after Hurdle glory yesterday when Riviera Sun gained the day in the Guinness Galway Blazers Handicap Chase.
Over two and three quarter miles it may be, but this event can often serve up a rousing finish as was the case on this occasion.
Less than five lengths covered the first six home and at the line Riviera Sun (16/1) was three parts of a length up on Phil's Magic
"It was super ride from Barry. He was told that you can't really get there too soon on him and he certainly carried out the instructions. He's been amazing this week," said de Bromhead.
"The horse won on heavy ground at Sligo last summer so we hoped he'd appreciate this going, which he did.
"I'm delighted to get it for the McManuses — it's fantastic to get a winner for them here.
"On Fiddlers Green disappointed but I think he just hated the ground."
D.N. Russell, rider of On Fiddlers Green trained by Henry de Bromhead, reported to the Clerk of Scales that his mount made a bad mistake.
The Stewards interviewed J.S. McGarvey, rider of The Gatechecker concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Reg. 10. 3.(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his clean record into account, cautioned him regarding his future whip use.
The Stewards interviewed B.J. Geraghty, rider of Riviera Sun, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found B.J. Geraghty in breach of Reg. 10 3.(f) by using his whip with excessive frequency and having taken his clean record into account the Stewards cautioned him regarding his future whip use.
The Stewards interviewed S.W. Flanagan, rider of Net D'Ecosse (FR), concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found the rider in breach of Regulation 10 3.(f) by using his whip with excessive force and frequency and having taken his previous record into account suspended him for two race days.
The Stewards interviewed D. Meyler, rider of Phil's Magic, concerning his use of the whip in the latter stages of this race.
Evidence was heard from the rider concerned.
Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards found D. Meyler in breach of Reg. 10 3 (f) by using his whip with excessive force and frequency and Reg. 10 3 (e) by using his whip on a place other than on the shoulder or hind quarters and having taken his previous clean record into account suspended him for three race days.
The Turf Club Veterinary Officer examined On Fiddlers Green, trained by Henry de Bromhead, at the request of the Stewards and reported the animal to be post race normal.
