Bishop provides Nagle with another National

Sun 6th Nov 2011, 15:10

Local trainer Tom Nagle landed the paddypower.com Cork Grand National for the second time in the space of just three years when 6/1 shot The Bishop Looney stayed on best on the run-in to get the better of Another Palm (11/2).

Tom Doyle 's mount landed in front over the last and, after being briefly headed by the runner-up, rallied strongly to prevail by three quarters of a length. Indifference Curve (13/2) was five and a half lengths further adrift in third, with 7/2 favourite Smoking Aces fourth.

Alickadoo won this race in the stewards room for the yard in 2008, while Nagle's Aka Jake went very close in this three and a half mile stamina test the previous year.

Nagle said, “He's a classy horse but thinks about things a little. You can't force him to jump and Tom was ideal on him. Alot of the credit should go to Richard O'Dea who schools him. He was schooled yesterday morning and again this morning and it paid off.

“I thought this would be an ideal race for him, and Tom said he travelled fierce well. He'll get an entry in the Paddy Power Chase at Leopardstown although I don't know if he's robust enough for that.”
