Just four went to post for the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Race at Killarney, and what looked a competitive heat beforehand materialised as Bertie Le Belge landed the spoils for Ger Lyons and Colin Keane.
Keane, sporting the colours of Cristina Patino's Anamoine Limited which also landed the opener with Buyer Beware was always confident on the son of Big Bad Bob.
Twice a winner last year, over six furlongs at the Curragh and seven at Leopardstown, he seemed to appreciate the step up to an extended mile here.
The easy-to-back 7/2 chance was last off the bridle leading over a furlong out, and kept on well in the closing stages to beat Cradle Mountain by a length and three quarters.
Lyons said, "How he's won over six furlongs I'll never know! Colin said he got there and then idled.
"He's won like a nice horse, and hopefully will get a bit further. The fact that he won over six furlongs had us confused.
"He's no fancy entries and I've no real plan but hopefully we can win another race with him as Mrs Patino is a great supporter and a lovely lady."
