Arctic Light came from an unpromising position to pick up the first split of Kilbeggan's three mile one handicap chase.

Eoin Walsh sent Light Bulb through on the inside to challenge Humps And Bumps at the second last, and it looked a race-winning move as he made full use of the inside route to scoot clear approaching the final fence.

At this stage, Arctic Light was seemingly toiling in fifth and was ridden by Mark Walsh. The nine-year-old gelding found for pressure, though, and improved to second at the last.

The 9/2 joint favourite kept up the gallop to catch a tiring Light Bulb (20/1) in the closing stages and won going away by two and three quarter lengths for Tom Mullins. Fr Gilligansvoyge completed the placings in third at 28/1.

Winning jockey Walsh said: “I thought they went very quick up front and never stopped.

“I just bided my time with him and I was happy enough. I didn't move on him until after the third last.

“I knew once I got a run on them he'd start picking up. I was always going to get some of the dead horses in front of me. It all worked out well today.”
