Lady Lyrath (10/1) went agonisingly close as long ago as July 2012 but the patience of her connections was finally rewarded on outing number twenty one in the John & Terry Moriarty Memorial Handicap under super-kid Connor King (following on from Cash Or Casualty on Wednesday) at Listowel.
The successful daughter of Whipper finished out her race much better than the rest to account for Chillie Billie (20/1) by two and three parts of a length at the line.
Winning owner and trainer Shane Duffy commented: "He gave her a peach of a ride. He rode her for me a couple of times at Dundalk – he was second and third on her.
"We set this up a while back thinking that there'd be soft ground for her.
"The only race suitable for her was over six and half but it rode like a seven and a half furlong race so it played to her strengths.
"A local man, Xavier McAuliffe put me on to her so it's great to come back to Listowel and get a win with her.
"We have eight in training but we're always looking for a few more. We work hard and we try our best and hopefully the winners will keep coming."
King's summation meanwhile went as follows: "She travelled well and picked up well and the soft ground probably helped her.
"I like to think I get on well with the filly – she's been running over longer distances but they decided to try her over the shorter trip today with the testing ground and it worked out well." (TW & EM)
