Annexation shrugged aside a wide draw out in stall fifteen to stylishly make a winning start for Henry de Bromhead in division two of the Download The BoyleSports App Handicap at Gowran.
The keen-going ex-Ed Dunlop runner was soon up there forcing the pace under Wayne Lordan, and those that backed the winner from 13/2 into 5/1 would have been happy with the jockey’s body language from early in the straight.
Lordan asked for more from the previous eight times raced maiden, from under two furlongs out.
A 240,000 Euro breeze-up horse in 2018, the Wootton Bassett gelding asserted from over a furlong out.
He’d joined current connections for 18K and that looks a nice investment given the way Annexation crossed the line, two and a half lengths in front of Accladora
"I'm delighted for the South Ros Syndicate (owners) who are headed by Gerry Petit and all the credit goes to Paul Roche who found him for us in Newmarket," said de Bromhead.
"He has a good pedigree, and we're hoping to go hurdling eventually. He'll stay on the flat for the time being but he has schooled and jumped well."
D.P. McDonogh, rider of Tynamite trained by David Marnane, reported to the Clerk of the Scales that his mount had no room in the straight.
