Annerville improved from her debut fourth over course and distance to win the 10 furlong fillies' maiden in Leopardstown.

She was well positioned to strike in second at the halfway stage just behind Call Me Sweetheart

The 11/4 favourite was pushed along by Ben Coen to lead narrowly racing past the two pole and was ridden to go for home approaching the final furlong.

She took a few lengths out of the pursuers inside the final furlong and was kept up to her work to prevail by three and a quarter lengths.

Call Me Sweetheart (4/1 from 13/2) kept on at the same pace for second and was half a length in front of Haziya (14/1).

Trainer Johnny Murtagh said: “That’s what we were hoping for. She had a very good run the first day and her work has been nice since.

“She doesn’t light you up at home but, the last day showed, she keeps her best for the track. She’s a lovely, big filly and the first horse I’ve had for Newtown Anner.

“Ben said she’s still learning on the job so she could be one that might get better during the year. The owner likes these fillies to get some black type, and I’ve made some nice big entries for her but she might not be ready for them yet.

“She’s such a big, rangy filly that she might need a bit more time. She stays a mile and a quarter and may even stay a mile and a half.”
