Able Jack gained a first Irish win at Dundalk today as the Pat Murphy trained six year old landed the www.dundalkstadium.com Handicap under 5lbs claimer Gavin Ryan.
The son of Iffraaj had previously won four times in Britain for trainers Andrew Balding and Stuart Williams and was bought by Murphy for today's owner Mark Finnane for 8,000gns at the Tattersalls July Horses In Training Sales
Today Able Jack won on his fifth start for his new connections when beating Dark Magic by a neck.
Afterwards trainer Murphy stated “we put cheekpieces on him tonight because he's just at that age where he's starting to think about things and they seemed to have worked.
“We rode him more positively than we had done before and he was back to a mile as well so it all fell into place.
“Gavin knows him well as he's ridden him work at home a few times lately, he's a good lad and is well worth the 5lb claim.
“He got a bit tricky in the stalls and we did a bit of stall work with him as well since the last day. He was loaded last today and we just kept an eye on that.
“He worked well last week and we thought he definitely had an each-way chance.”
