Aurifodina supplied his trainer Jim Bolger and rider Ronan Whelan with a 59/1 double when he won the Mallow.ie Apprentice Handicap at Cork.
They'd earlier combined to capture the Irish Stallion Farms European Breeders Fund Maiden with Sun On The Run
Here, Aurifodina, the 3/1 favourite, led over a furlong out before holding on from the staying on well Amazing Star – the margin between the pair at the line being a neck. Maundy Money was blocked on the rail when coming with his run a furlong and a half out and he eventually had to settle for fourth place.
Ger Flynn, representing the Coolcullen team, said: "He quickened through the gap nicely and he's a lovely big horse.
"He was probably idling a little bit in front which shows a little bit of greenness.
"I'm delighted for Ronan. He's been working hard all winter and that's a nice double for him today." (AM & EM)
