He could go for the Kerry National at Listowel, and going left-handed would suit him better. That rain probably helped him as well.

I didn't get him going over fences until Christmas time. I thought I had the other two for the Champion Hurdle (Annie Power and Faugheen) and I said I'd let him go chasing,. I thought about it (going back to hurdles) for about two seconds and then I said 'no'. I spoke to Graham Wylie and he was thinking the same thing. We could always come back over hurdles next year, but we'll see how he gets on in Cheltenham.

People crab him because of his jumping, but he has a huge kink in him - people never realised the job Paul Nicholls did with Denman, because he was the same. Both are chestnuts by Presenting, the best ones all have a kink, he has a massive engine. He's brilliant. He slipped taking off at the first down the back and when he landed I thought 'your luck could be in today'. Everything can't go your way all the time and you have to prepare for that. To get on the board is huge. To get on the board in a Grade One is better. It's good for Ruby and the whole team. We've had a hard few days, but that's the way it is and we take what we can get.

He takes a good grip. He jumps a bit left but that suits around here,. Ruby rode him with confidence but he was obviously very strong when he took up the running going into the back straight. We thought there was enough pace in the race but he managed to change gear and made the running. Ruby was just holding on to him in front. He jumped well and did what he had to do. We thought we would be getting a lead from the two in front but obviously our fellow’s cruising speed is a lot higher than theirs which means we could come back in trip if we want. His pedigree and everything suggests he could go out in trip but whether he’s too strong to go a longer trip or not I don’t know. At least he got today’s job done and we’ll look forward to wherever he goes the next time. I’ll get him home now and see. I’ll have a chat with Ruby to see whether he wants to go again with him. Experience is no harm for those novice chasers. He’s easy enough to train but a challenge to ride. David Casey rides him in the morning and he settles well. He gets him on his own. When you try to keep him in company might be the issue but he’s not as bad as a lot of other horses. I’m not trying to interfere with his jumping much and I’m hoping with more experience on the track he’ll get out of that habit. He makes enough ground jumping and he’s got a good engine so I’m not inclined to interfere with him much.

he has huge scope for jumping and certainly has not lost any of his ability. He's very at home over fences. He went a bit left but that would not worry me too much once they have an engine. I hope fences will help him to settle - he took a fairly keen hold today but was not rushing his fences. He would have no trouble stepping up in trip but he is very good at that trip (two miles) and can jump at that trip. Christmas will probably come a bit too soon for his next run. He could stay at two miles or go up in trip just depending where his next run fits in.

We bought him after he won a point-to-point and he looks a nice acquisition. He'll go down the novice hurdle route next year. We'll see how he is after this and he could go for a winners race, although we have a lot of nice winners to run.
