Things certainly hadn't gone to plan since we got him as he wasn't right. That said, I was confident enough he'd run well but didn't expect him to win. I know the race ended up with only three runners but we'll take it and he is now a Grade 2 winner. The Galway Plate was initially the plan but he just wasn't right at that time and then was well beaten the last day but he is back on track now. Last night and with the weather forecast, we thought we mightn't be running but it went the other way and it suited us. To win this Grade 2 is brilliant.

Galway is a great place and it's been lucky for us. To win a graded race is great but I got more of a thrill for Basil (Holian, owner) who is a great supporter of the yard. To have a winner here for him is brilliant. It was very competitive and a lot of them had high marks over hurdles but we always thought our lad would be better over a fence and he's starting to prove that. He looked a slow jumper over hurdles but we schooled him once over fences and he was electric. Jamie Codd picked him out at the sales over in Cheltenham for Basil and Colin Bowe always said 'wait till you see him jumping a fence'. You could see today he's rapid over them. This was the plan, we were keen to get a run into him over fences and then come here.

The trip and the ground was a big help for him there today. I'm delighted for Basil and Bernie Holian who bought this horse and bought a few horses with me since. It's great to get a bit of luck for them. We'll put him away now and wait for Galway - the two mile five or two mile seven handicap there on the Saturday. He's a nice horse going forward and I can't wait to get him over fences. We did his wind since the last day and I'd say it has helped him a bit too. Going out I just told Tommy he is brilliant to jump and I was conscious not to get there too soon, because of it being his first run back we wanted to make sure he got to the line well. He judged it well.
