He would have needed his run the last day and we were a lot happier coming here today. He's racing off a lower mark than his hurdles rating and probably a lot of those were exposed, so off his hurdles mark you'd have given him a chance. He wouldn't want any shorter, but we didn't want to run him over three miles-plus on heavy winter ground - he probably wants a bit of nicer ground. Two and a half miles was grand for him on today's ground. The Leopardstown Chase is one aim and there's a Grand National Trial handicap at Naas over three miles four furlongs in March. We'll aim him for Leopardstown and if the ground is okay he'll go for that. We half thought he might be entitled to a little squeak in something like the Kim Muir at Cheltenham -three miles and two furlongs on better ground would suit him.

There's plenty of us have come to follow him today so it's a great day. To even have a runner up here at a meeting like this, for a small stable, is phenomenal. To come here with a chance and then win is what you dream of. He's a chaser, that is what he is. He won a novice chase and we decided to go back over hurdles and try and win a hurdle with him. He just kept improving and that's why we've kept him over hurdles. We'll have a look at Cheltenham but the handicapper will have his say now so we'll have to see if he puts him up too much.

It's great to get it, brilliant. It was touch and go if he was going to get in or not,. We've only two horses for the track so it's great. I have him and his half-sister. I knew he was in good form and is improving all the time. He won over two-and-a-half on the inside track at Punchestown last time and I knew going three miles around here would suit better. In off his low weight with Kevin taking 3lb off him was big help as well. He's a chaser really and I have my heart set on a novice handicap chase at Navan in the middle of March. After that we'll decide.

We were hoping to get a lead but the way it worked out he was just lobbing away in front and it worked out ideal. He stayed at it well and I thought he might be well handicapped over hurdles compared to what he could be over fences. He might go back over fences now. There is a novice chase back here on Tuesday week that he could go for or at Thurles two days after.

That was great. We gave him a run last week and he has come on a lot from it, . It was a surprise as he struggled a bit last week but he improved more than we thought. He always showed plenty potential but has had loads of little niggly problems the whole time. He is my first horse and that was my second runner; I got the licence in July and only have two horses to run.
