John Staunton rides him out every day and had him spot on. He said to me yesterday he’ll run a big race even though it looked very competitive for the end of May. He travelled super and jumped super. Phillip is able to switch him off and save a bit which he needs as he’s not the strongest finisher of all time. He came with one run which was fabulous. He might have a little break now and come back for Galway.

He's done it very well, and is a real stable star for me as I only have a few in. He's been to Leopardstown at Christmas twice, and the Festivals at Cheltenham and Punchestown. He'll go to Galway, and may go for the amateur handicap on the first night or the Guinness Handicap on the Friday. He'll probably get more entries for Galway than any other horse, as he'll be in hurdles and chases as well. He may get an entry in the Plate but I think it is too far as he walked home after the last over 2m 4f at Cheltenham.

He's a funny character and you can't interfere with him too much. With his jumping, he sorts himself out and you're better off leaving it to him. He's a summer horse and has been on the go a year now so I might give him a break.

I thought he had a right chance off a mark of 103. He works well at home but it was just a question of putting everything together. The hood has helped him and kept him nice and relaxed beforehand. Jerry McGrath said he was travelling well when he was brought down at Down Royal, and I thought the two and a half miles would suit him. He's won at Sligo and this is a similar track. He was my first winner when winning in Sligo and it's almost 12 months to the day. It's been an up and down year but to win in Galway is fantastic. The owners are fairly local and have been with me since day one. My Dad passed away during the year and was a great supporter of mine so he might have had something to do with it. His own horse runs on Sunday so we're looking for the double.

That's my first winner and it's great to get that weight off my shoulders. I have to thank a lot of people particularly my neighbour Mark McNiff. He has been a great help. I had a job in a laboratory last year and I only stayed at it a day as I knew it wasn't what I wanted to do. I rang a couple of owners on the way home and they said they would back me so I have to thank them for taking the chance. I bought the horse off Derek Pugh who is from Rosses Point. I had to go to Fairyhouse to do the deal and the horse was coming back to Sligo where he was reared. He did it well. He was green on his debut at Tipperary but we always liked him. I've another four-year-old at home by Turtle Island who I rightly like. This lad is able to keep tabs with him most of the time so I knew he was alright.
