We are probably better off running him off a higher weight in a lesser race as he is well able to carry it. It was (a fine front-running effort) on the ground as well. I wouldn't say we were worried about the ground but we were a bit iffy about it. He performs well during the summer on better ground. Keith (Donoghue) went out with a plan to lead away and he jumped brilliant for him. I'm delighted for Keith as he's a good help to me. He won the (Galway) Blazers last year so he has some decent form. I'm not going to run him on deep, heavy ground. He jumped a little bit to his left so he probably would be better off going the other way.

We were in two minds to run him this morning and two of the owners Shay Gillen and Tom McGrady decided to let him take his chance. This race was the plan last year but unfortunately he was lame the day before the race, so we had to pull him out and it was the target again. The intention was to hopefully win and get him up a few pounds and he'll go for the Kerry National now. It was lovely to get and Robbie gave him some ride in fairness to him.

On his recent chase form I'd have been disappointed if he didn't win. He was very keen for the first mile but was grand then,. He had a couple of good recent runs over fences and we'll look for a nice chase somewhere now. He is going the right way and there are plenty of chases coming up for him.

He wouldn't show you a whole lot at home and I didn't know what to expect but he had great placed form with James Sheehan. I'm delighted with him. We'll keep him going over the summer - he has form over a variety of trips, over two miles and further. Sean (Flanagan) said he loved the ground. Based on that yes I would (be looking at a good pot over the summer). I'm still learning about him. When he came first he was a bit keen and free and that but he settled well there for Sean. He gave him a lovely spin around.

Gilligan later commented .I made a chronic mistake running him in the winners bumper last time. I thought the owner was going back to Dubai and would want to see him run. It was a mistake on my behalf,. If he had soft ground he would have been a lot closer last time. He previous run at Galway was brilliant and at Sligo first time he had a good run but missed the last three flights. That ground is still too good for him. He wants it softer and is a winter horse. He's tough. We'll take our time with him as I think he's a nice horse and Davy liked him a lot.
