.He was fit from hurdling although the worry was that the trip might be a bit sharp today and you'd expect him to be a bit better upped in distance,.

it's a great confidence booster to get his head in front and I thought Danny did great to bring him from where he did. He stays really well and we've done a lot on his jumping since Christmas; since then he has been jumping fences and has done a lot of pole work which just teaches him to back off and respect his hurdles more. He'll have entries at all the handicaps at Cheltenham: the Pertemps Final, the Coral Cup and Martin Pipe Hurdle and looking at them, the Pertemps looks the race for him over a true run three miles. He needs a few pounds to get in but hopefully that should leave him spot-on at the weights. At one stage it came into my head to give up on him over jumps but Barry (Connell, owner) is a National Hunt man but that's what the horse was bought for and it was our job to get him jumping!

we can get out top hats out now because the plan from here is to run at Royal Ascot. The Wolferton Stakes, a limited handicap on Gold Cup day, is now on his agenda and hopefully he won't get anything for winning this as he appeared to run to his mark. We thought coming here that the track, ground and trip suited and while he normally makes the running, Bolger's filly (An Saincheann) went off at a million miles an hour and we just sat-in. he was very unlucky when he fell in the Boylesports Hurdle at Leopardstown as it seemed to affect him mentally and didn't seem happy over hurdles after. He'll be kept going in those Listed races now though and probably won't return to hurdling as he is good enough at this job.

It's great for young Joe. He's 16 and a local fellow. He signed on to Charlie Swan and he would ride work for us. He's ridden a lot of pony race winners and it's good to get the ball rolling for him. I'm delighted for the owner Liam O'Kelly. He's very supportive of me and the whole yard. I don't know where we'll go with him. We had to come here today as he's gone up to 66 [in the handicap] and that's going to be tough. He had 17 pounds in hand today so he was entitled to win, but it'll be tough from here now.

He was probably entitled to win off that mark. We will see how he is but he is entered again on Thursday (in Leopardstown) and he will probably run.

It was probably an average contest but he jumped slicker and travelled better than he did here the last day. The 8lb allowance (for horses that had not won a race) was also a big help. I've no real plans, we'll see what the handicapper does, and he'll go out to grass before he goes back on the Flat.
