He may have been a Grade 1 winner in his time, but that was his last win and it came over two years ago now, so it wasn't any great surprise to see Follow The Plan go off a 25/1 chance (from 50s) for the Grade 2 Matty Ryan Memorial Kinloch Brae Chase, a price he defied at Thurles under a confident Paddy Mangan ride.

As Hardy Eustace enters his 13th year, the end of his career can surely not be far away after he was beaten 13 lengths into second by Footy Facts in the Kathleen Clarke 80th Birthday Hurdle at PunchestownThu 31st Dec

“He's in good order and came out of the race well. We were happy enough with the run.
“The race was run at a bit too steady of a pace. They just quickened up the last two furlongs and he got caught a bit flat footed.
“He wasn't beaten too far though. He'll take his chance in the Lexus. It's three miles for the first time but hopefully that shouldn't be an issue.
“He relaxes well and it shouldn't be a problem dropping in and taking our time. There are only 13 days between the races but hopefully that won't be an issue.
“It was nice to get the win in Thurles with him and the run the other day was respectable.”

Navan Sat, 27th Mar, 2010 (1st)
He ran too free the last day in Clonmel but he put it together better now. We'll look forward to Punchestown now and I'd imagine he'll have to go for the Guinness Gold Cup. J'y Vole and Cooldine will also be going for that race. He could have the class to go back to two miles but I don't think that he will.
