I thought the ground might have dried up too much for him as he likes a good cut in it,. He’s a very consistent horse and we’ve had him since he was a three-year-old. We intended to win a point-to-point and sell him but he never won a point-to-point and has won seven now on the track. He’s probably better over fences and he’s better handicapped over hurdles. He’s got a bad old cut and hopefully he’s alright. I think a horse jumped into him. For some reason they are running out of their skin this year. We have a few nice ones on the Flat and they are healthy and well.

I'll take a good leaf off the boss (Gerry Keane) and see how the training is done. I'll stay working for Gerry - he's been very good to me and is a good friend as well as a boss. Small steps first!. The ground was probably a bit lively for him in Sligo. I'd say it was (also) more competitive than we thought it was. He likes to run handy. He had been disappointing over hurdles the last couple of years and that is why he is well handicapped over hurdles compared to fences. I think he is a better horse over fences. I thought the two mile three might catch him out but it didn't and he won very well in the end. He won here over two mile five and has never won over two miles since. He couldn't win a point-to-point - the plan was to win a point-to-point and sell him on. That's six I think he has won on the track now. There are a couple of chases coming up for him, there is one in Killarney. He'll mix it anyway.

He's a grand horse, and has been very consistent. He could go to Punchestown for a similar race on New Year's Eve. He's been on the go for a good while and will have to get a break at some stage.

Bringing him back to two miles did the trick obviously. We thought he wanted two-and-a-half and he did win over 2m5f at Downpatrick but it was a slowly run race. Two miles is the key to him. He looks like a slow horse at home but he lights up when he comes racing. He’s a grand old horse. He’s won three times over hurdles and that’s his first chase. We’ve had him since he was a four-year-old. We were hoping to sell him but he didn’t win a point-to-point and he was left with us. He’s done a job anyway. There are probably more opportunities for him in England and we’re thinking about a race in Musselburgh in a couple of weeks for him. We’ve had it in mind for him and said if he ran well here he would go. It depends on what the handicapper does now.

He's had a few problems. He ran well in Sligo when he needed the run on his first run back. In Wexford he pulled too hard and didn't get the two-and-a-half miles. He was just running too freely and not getting home. He did win over 2m5f in the past but it was a slowly run race and the main thing was dropping him back in trip today.

I thought he would win a point-to-point, but he was backward and had lots of little niggles and it was an ordinary looking race. He gallops and jumps and we fancied him a bit on his run in Ballinrobe where he was second. We thought if he wasn't in the first three there, we were going nowhere and he was also fourth in a better race at Ballinrobe. We'll probably have to go for a handicap now and I'm delighted for Mark (Flanagan), who is a great lad. He's from Kells and lives in Trim and I try and give him rides.
