He got twelve pounds for winning over hurdles last year and he failed to reproduce that form. I'm beginning to think he is better running fresh. The Galway Festival will be his Gold Cup and he will either run in the Amateur Handicap on the Monday or the Galway Hurdle. He might also run in the Ascot Stakes. He would have a five week break before Galway if he ran there and he might get in off 86.

Before coming here I thought it would be softer than he would like but I was delighted today to find it drier than I had expected. I fancied him to win but was I just a bit worried about the ground. I knew on flat form he was very well handicapped. He jumped great today, for the first time and we done a lot of work with him at home. He matured since his last run as well. We will see what the handicapper does with him now but I have a 2m 4f race at Ascot pencilled in for him. He will mix it over the summer and we will try and win a few more races with him.

I fancied him today. He's been a bit unlucky and has been drawn wide and unlucky in running,. I've had this race in mind for him for some time as I thought it would suit. I'd like to step him up in trip but there's not too many handicaps over a longer trip. The Ulster Derby (at Down Royal) is an option while there is also a mile-and-a-half handicap at the Curragh for him.
