it’s easy talking about it after the event but I said a long time ago the long-term plan is the Galway Plate. These trainers are great when they win three weeks before Galway, and say they’re all heading to Galway, but I’m saying it a long time. He’s a work in progress and is a lazy horse but the ground would have been as lively as I would have liked. He’s a good actioned horse and will probably get another run, probably over hurdles, just to sharpen him up for the Plate.

he's a good ground horse in spite of him winning his bumper in Cork on heavy - that probably tore him a bit that day and he just didn't seem to be the same horse afterwards. He jumped right today but Paul (Townend) said that was just the ground. my long-term plan with him was the Galway Plate but obviously he'll have to progress to that. Denis O'Regan (jockey) said that he's the ideal type of horse for that, the way he jumps. Hopefully down the road Galway is where we'll go - I know there is more to come from him.

Stupidly I ran him at Navan with a view to then running in the Cheltenham Bumper but he pulled muscles and was lame behind for two weeks and that's why he has been missing since. If he had run at Cheltenham, he'd have put it up to them but the reason I've gone over hurdles is that I'd be happier with a fence in front of him and he'll go chasing next season. He never had a schooling hurdle before today but he is an exceptional jumper of a chase fence. He'll have one more run over hurdles, maybe at Punchestown, and will go chasing next season. I'd nearly take out my license again and get my weight back down to ride him over fences!

The first thing Finny said when he came back was that he hated the ground and must be some horse to do what he did. He said he even hated it going to the start. He's a big baby. He has schooled over racecourse fences and chasing will be his game. Tom (Quinn, owner) twisted my arm to come here today as I wanted to go jumping. He's a three-mile horse in the making. He was offered big money after he won at Galway but fair play to Tom he doesn't want to sell.

He came to me from Thomond O'Mara,. The third time he went up the gallop I couldn't pull him up and I said to Nina (Carberry, today) that he was a machine but on his home work you wouldn't give a fiver for him.
