he obviously likes it here, it's a fine galloping track which the likes of this horse needs. He jumped brilliant and himself and Bryan seem to get on very well. Hopefully we can keep going in this direction; he won the Hilly Way before but didn't have a great year after that so we won't get too carried away. More than likely we'll look at Leopardstown over Christmas. He's beaten a horse (A Plus Tard) there that will probably improve a lot but so will ours. I'd rate him a serious horse. We'll talk to (owner) Stever Parker of Clipper Logistics, Joe Foley and Bryan (Cooper) and make a decision. Maybe if the ground was good you'd be looking to go up in trip but on that sort of ground I think that is his trip.

That was great. Bryan said at Leopardstown to keep this race in mind. He said at Naas he gave a blow at the wrong time. When they all quickened he gave a blow and he had to give him a chance. I had thought about going for the Grand Annual and thought he was well in but Joe Foley and Steve Parkin wanted to come for this and when we saw the entries it looked like the right move. I'd say the ground is still heavy enough for him. All the times he's won it's been soft ground but ground that he can jump off whereas there he has to get down and jump and can't be slick enough but he was good today. I'm delighted for Steve Parkin, who has stuck by me, and Joe Foley. We had said if we won this we might go to Aintree but we'll see. This was the main objective and we got it.

It was a pity Andrew Lynch couldn't ride him as he'd all the schooling down with him but he got injured. I was delighted to get Paul to fill in. He wasn't jumping fluently in Punchestown and ran a bit flat but he's summered fierce well and was in great shape coming here. He's just a different horse this year. He'd a few problems last year but is all there now and has had no injuries. He was working out of this world and if we didn't win here we were going to struggle this year. He'll probably go to Leopardstown now at Christmas and if he performs well hopefully he can go on to Cheltenham in March. After that he suffers from allergies and that may have been his problem in Punchestown. When the growth starts, the pollen starts so we'll aim to have him at his peak in March. Paul said he would be better going left-handed. He handled that ground well but he seems to be versatile enough. Today Great Field came down and we were there to pick up the spoils. If he stayed up it would have been some race but you have to get you’re bit of luck as well.

His preparation didn't have the one last gallop you'd like but his mobility was unreal and it was the first time I've ever seen him right in himself,. He had been stiff and sore after his last run in December but had no issue for the last six weeks and I could start into training him. He should come on tonnes from this and he'll probably run in the Grade 1 two mile novice chase at Punchestown next. He likes being fresh and we'll keep him fresh for Punchestown now - he's exciting and he deserves a lash at the Grade 1.

We've not had much of a preparation with little niggly things, and then we had the snow and the rain. It was not the preparation that you would like,. Christmas will probably come too soon for him after this, although it will depend on how he comes out of it. We know we can take our time with him now and place him nicely. You would think he'll have to improve from that run. He was off a long time and we had him prepped for different runs and he didn't make it. He can go up in trip and a bigger track will suit him. He's won well there over two miles but going back on his previous runs you would wonder if he wants to go further than two and a half miles.
