she had to be (involved) in the race form-wise and also being drawn one. It wasn't ideal after going to Newbury last Saturday and we were in two minds whether it took anything out of her. The ground was a bit loose on top at Newbury and Andrea (Atzeni, jockey) said that she just didn't like it. She likes good, honest to god, quick ground. She was drawn one today and had everything in her favour today and she's done it well. She did it like the way we thought she would. We've had a bit of a frustrating year with her, with little niggly problems, so we've had a late season and it'll stand to her next year. She'll be back in training next year and on her Listed win last year, hopefully if we have a clear run of it, she'll be exciting next year on fast ground.

She doesn't get six (furlongs) at the minute, she might do in time but she is very fast and idles in front. The plan was to jump and run and 'don't take back' today. We'd have been delighted with third and put her away for the winter and hope like she would progress into something like this next year. But she has won her black-type now, has speed and is a very valuable commodity now at the moment. She did a lot of growing from two to three and if she continues to grow, we could have a real, good quality sprinter for next year. I think we'll stop with her now; there is the Mercury Stakes for her or else we could travel her but I think we'll look after her now until next year.

Could it have gone any more wrong and she still won. They don’t have the pace to lead her and I said (to Colin) would you not let her go on but he said no as you see when she gets to the front that she wanders around. Pure talent got her home. She’s a nice filly and she’s after winning in spite of everything and it’s the next step on where we want to go. Once the handicapper finishes us off then we’ll concentrate.

Timing is everything as Nick only arrived this morning from New York and I didn't even know he was coming here. He is a jeweller in New York but has a farm in Limerick and bred her as well. She had all her conditions right as we knew she was well, she likes fast ground, and wants five furlongs. She is maturing every time. She is a bit buzzy at the start but she is allowing him to ride her. She is a project and I'm hoping she will grow into a Stakes filly next year. She is not one this year. I could have waited for a three-year-old only (race) in a couple of weeks but the ground could have been gone on me. She did some growing from two to three and she is not finished yet. It's all about getting her black type but that will probably be when she is four.

She did what we thought she would do and is a filly that we like,. One of the owners, Amy Vaughan King, flew in from Texas for the day to see her run at the Curragh the last day. The ground was wrong but we let her run. On another day we probably would have withdrawn her but she learned plenty from it and got her mark. The other owner is Nicky Varney who is based in New York. The aim is to go black type as she is owner bred but she just has to learn to switch off a tad more. She is just too honest. Hopefully she will be a lovely filly next year. She will probably go for the Blenheim Stakes.

She's very green and unseated him going to the start,. She's very quiet and honest at home but just came on her toes here. We knew she had ability to win one of these but thought maybe greenness and everything would have got her beat today. The second horse had a breeze-up and Mick's horse had a run. When she got down to the start she behaved professionally from the minute she got into the box. She was first out and it was copybook as he slotted back into a pocket and taught her her job. She was on the wrong lead all the way up the straight so she's going to improve plenty for it. I'm never worried about them losing on their first start as you need nearly two maidens in them before you step up. I don't think there is an abundance of winners races and that's a problem. This is for an American client and as always with fillies that are able to win their Irish maiden you start hunting black-type for them. Once you get that job done you can relax a bit. I'm delighted for Nicholas Varney and his partner. He is a jeweller in New York and this is their first horse with us. There is a winners race at the Curragh over six after Galway and that's probably where she'll go.
