He did what we thought he could do today and it was a good race with no hiding places. He'll go for the 2m5f (JLT Novices Chase) at Cheltenham and will go straight there - whatever he faces there, he'll face and whatever happens, happens. When he got beaten by Don Poli it looked like he didn't get three miles but we might try it again in time. I'm delighted for Paul (Hunt) who has been a great supporter and it's great for him to win a race like this. He's not here as he's on his way back from Dubai. Paul is a fabulous guy to have on your side. He doesn't try to force it and lets the horse do the talking.

I couldn't be happier, he jumped like a buck. He will improve for that, but he was fit enough for the race. Paul thinks he'll be better with a good gallop. He hasn't schooled on grass, he schooled on all-weather so you never know. He does like getting goodish ground, but he should go on anything. The Drinmore has to be the race but I also have Very Wood, but he may want further. We'll have to see about whether we can get a race into him (Apache Stronghold) before the Drinmore.

I thought it was a very strong race beforehand and to win like that is a real bonus. Paul said he was cantering all the way and he jumped well apart from the last. He didn't jump that well the last time in Punchestown . he was a bit lairy when he hit the front. He's something to look forward to and the obvious race is to come back here for the Grade 1 Navan Novice Hurdle (December 15th). At least we have one to take on Willie (Mullins) with now. Trip wise he doesn't want any shorter and he's a chaser really.

He's a very good jumper at home but Davy said he made a mistake at the first which just frightened him a bit. He's a nice horse and hopefully he'll go on from here. Because of the way the weather has been I thought he'd need it and he wouldn't have run without getting that rain this morning. He'll come on a tonne from that . both in terms of fitness and his jumping experience.

Apache Stronghold was a lovely big horse last season but we didn't get much done with him. Paul (Carberry) rode work on him last week and we were a bit worried about the ground here but he got through it well and I imagine he'll go jumping now. He's a great big horse.
