Pencil bounces back to form in Dundalk opener
It's good to get off the mark. He showed the form he is capable of. He has been at sea for a while but Gary gave him a lovely ride. I put him in here to sharpen him up as he is a 7yo now. He had lost his way and I'm very pleased with him.
Marvada upstages Up
I genuinely thought that the Ballydoyle horse, Up would be too strong. With the weight thirteen pound in the difference I thought we were playing for second. They went slow enough early on. Shane said they went slow and that she loved the surface. In Meydan they tend to overwater the Turf, she wants fast ground and likes this surface. We will go for the Athasi Stakes (Curragh May 7th) next and then maybe the Ballyogan at Leopardstown.
First winner for Heffernan as Shelter makes all
He lost his form last year and I don't really know why. He is back to himself now. He ran well at Killarney in July. We gave him a break and that seems to have freshened him up. We have no plans for him now. He ran alright here in a 3yo maiden here before and Sam gave him a lovely ride. The trip was ideal for him and he needed things to go his own way. He is a real front runner.
Halford full of praise for Foley after Banna win
It was a tricky muddling old race. Shane is riding really well at the moment and he got a lovely position and did well to win. The horse loves it around here, it was a good race and he got a very good ride. He probably got there a bit sooner than he would have liked but he didn't want to get locked in. He will come back here on Friday week for a mile handicap.
Gan Locht scores on second start for Kingston
She worked well twice over two miles around here and she was fully wound up for today and had been training well. We were confident each-way and we had a few bob on. Fifi (Shane Gray) started riding out with us when he was eleven and he was lucky enough to get into Tommy Stacks and they have been very good to him. If his weight stays down he will have a good future ahead of him. (DM & GC)
Alhellal makes successful switch to the Flat
He has worked up here a few times and he loves the surface. He worked well over a mile and four here last week so we were hopeful coming here today. It was a good performance, he did it well and Kevin was very happy with him.
Ursa takes the last for Carmody & Murtagh
His run here the last day was very pleasing. He does nothing at home, he is very laid back. Tonight was a bonus and we will see where he goes now. We will step him up to a mile and a half.
