Champion Jockey Davy Russell received a one day whip ban at Punchestown today for his ride on runner-up Western Boy in the Grade 2 novice hurdle. The report reads:
'The Stewards interviewed D.N. Russell, rider of Western Boy, concerning his use of the whip in this race. Evidence was heard from the rider concerned. Having viewed a recording of the race and considered the evidence the Stewards were of the opinion that the rider was in breach of Regulation 10.3 (a) having used the whip in front of the saddle in the forehand position and having considered his record, suspended him for one race day."
