Puck Fair got off the mark at the fourth attempt but only after a protracted final furlong battle with Vitalized in the Irish Stallion Farms EBF Fillies Maiden at Leopardstown.

The Johnny Murtagh-trained juvenile laid down her challenge in the straight but the 9/4 chance was made to pull out all the stops and just prevailed by the minimum margin of a nose for Niall McCullagh.

The 11/8 favourite She's A Pistol set the pace but could find no extra at the business end finishing over four lengths back in third.

McCullagh said “They went a good gallop and the softer ground helped. I’d say she will probably stay over six furlongs for the time being.”
