Approaching the final furlong, Cogital (GB), placed third, lugged quickly right-handed, hampering Contrebasse (GB), placed sixth, but after viewing a recording of the incident, it was found that no riding offence was involved and that it had not improved the placing of Cogital (GB).
An enquiry was held to consider the placings in this race after interference inside the final ½ furlong involving the winner, Justified (GB), ridden by Joe Fanning; Solar Screen (IRE), placed second, ridden by Silvestre De Sousa and Teescomponentsfly (GB), placed fifth, ridden by Connor Beasley.
The Stewards considered that the interference had not improved Justified (GB)’s placing as Solar Screen (IRE) had been slow to improve its position and only made minimal ground on Justified (GB) in the home straight prior to the incident occurring, whereupon De Sousa was tightened for room over a period of six strides before being beaten ¾ of a length, after never giving the impression it was likely to pass Justified (GB) on the run to the line.
The placings also remained unaltered when considering the interference suffered by Teescomponentsfly (GB), as despite the gelding being badly hampered against the rail late on, it was always comfortably being held by Justified (GB) to be beaten 2 lengths.
The interference was found to be accidental as Justified (GB) had edged slightly right-handed before being corrected by its rider, thereby causing interference to the two runners on its inside.
Following the race, Paul Mulrennan reported that Arctic Fox (GB), placed fourth, was slowly away.
