Peaches And Cream ran out an easy winner of the North Down Marquees Handicap Hurdle, providing Gavin Cromwell with his sixteenth winner of the month.

The subject of a gamble at Down Royal on his last start, the son of Salutino had to settle for second there behind Party Playboy.

Well-fancied to go one place better this afternoon, the four-year-old opened on-course at evens, before going off the clear favourite at 5/4.

Settled behind the leaders by Jonathan Moore, the 95 rated gelding came through to lead just before the last and soon eased clear, going on to score by fourteen lengths. Greenandwhitearmy (14/1) came through to take second under Ricky Doyle for Neil McKnight, while the front-running Santa Anna (9/1) was another half a length back in third.

Moore said afterwards: "I probably got there too soon really, the horse in front travelled really well to the last and we kind of got under pressure coming down the hill but luckily my lad stayed well in the end.

"Adam (Short, on Santa Anna) travelled cosy coming down the hill and I thought I was going to have to give him (Peaches And Cream) a good squeeze to get by him but he probably stopped a bit and I just probably stayed going.

"We kind of knew he would stay well, so Gavin said to me to keep him very handy and keep it simple."

On Cromwell's current form, he added: "I'm delighted to be riding for him and it's great."

Cromwell registered a double at Perth yesterday, while he was also on the mark at Sligo.
