Long-standing maiden Dedanann (7/1) got off the mark in the Sunny South East Handicap Hurdle (80-102).

After seven previous placed efforts over hurdles, and on outing number 28 after a lay-off since February, the 7-year-old led two out under Trevor Ryan and kept on well to hold the late effort of Porky Rush (13/2) by three quarters of a length.

The 4/1 favourite Greige was back in third.

Another winner on the card for Yeats, after Quaker Island in the preceding three mile maiden hurdle, Dedanann is a half-brother to winning stablemates The Little Yank and Cluan Dara.

Winning trainer John Ryan, for whom it was an eighth winner of the season, said: "That was a long time coming. He has found every excuse not to win. He has just always found one or two too good.

“I'd say he liked the ground today and Trevor gave him a very good ride. He is a good chap and his father is my first cousin.

"We will find something similar for him now."
