Giuseppe Garibaldi proved too strong for Ballydoyle stable-mate Cypress Creek in the one-mile five-furlong maiden at Navan this afternoon.

Cypress Creek was the well-backed 8/13 favourite and bounced out in front under Emmet McNamara.

He was asked for an effort over two furlongs from home and wandered a bit going to the furlong marker.

Giuseppe Garibaldi took over at that point and quickened well in the closing stages, for Mick Hussey, to run out a a length-and-a-half winner.

The 7/2 winner had been placed on his three previous outings so wasn't winning out of turn today.

Hussey said:- “He travelled real well and when I asked him to quicken he quickened well. He’s done it nicely, and stays well.

“Aidan told me to ride him with loads of confidence, take my time and make the best of my way home. Everything worked out well, and he loved the ground.”
