Wesley Joyce is making good progress from serious injuries suffered in a fall at the Galway Festival this summer and is looking forward to getting back in the saddle next season.
The 7lb claimer was unseated from Red Heel in the Arthur Guinness Irish EBF Corrib Stakes on July 28 and spent a lengthy period in intensive care at University Hospital Galway.
“I broke my shoulder, broken ribs, and fractured my larynx but I’m looking forward to getting back next season,” said Joyce who also suffered damage to his chest and lungs and spent a total of six weeks in hospital.
“I love the game and I want to get back racing. My voice is faint but other than that I feel good.
“I’m going to RACE on Tuesday to start my rehab.”
The Limerick native has ridden 20 winners in his young career and had partnered six winners this season before the fall from the Mick Mulvany-trained Red Heel, who appeared to stumble on a pathway soon after start of the seven-furlong Listed race.
Joyce is apprenticed to Mulvany’s Oristown House yard near Kells.
