The prospect of a significant break in the prolonged spell of dry weather is welcome news to Dermot Weld whose stablestar Homeless Songs is on target for the Coolmore America ‘Justify’ Matron Stakes at Leopardstown on Saturday week.
The Frankel filly made a winning reappearance in the Group 3 Ballylinch Stud 1,000 Guineas Trial Stakes at Leopardstown before a brilliant performance in the Tattersalls Irish 1,000 Guineas.
The Moyglare Stud Farm homebred cruised into contention under Chris Hayes at the Curragh before striding clear to beat Tuesday by five and a half lengths.
A stated preference for some ease in the ground has meant that she is without a run since but conditions look set to swing her way with an unsettled spell of weather forecast from Saturday.
“Some rain at the weekend would be very welcome,” said the Rosewell House trainer.
“The filly is well and it’s all systems go. She will run ground permitting.”
Tahiyra created a big impression when taking a maiden in runaway style on debut at the Galway Festival and is also being aimed at Longines Irish Champions Weekend.
The Siyouni half-sister to Tarnawa, who scaled the heights for the same connections notably winning the Breeders’ Cup Turf at Keeneland in 2020, beat Dower House by over five lengths at Ballybrit and the runner-up has since gone one better in a Naas maiden.
“Tahiyra is also in good form and the plan is to go for the Moyglare Stud Stakes,” said Weld.
