Paddy Twomey is not too downhearted after reflecting on Pearls Galore’s fifth behind the front-running Saffron Beach in the Group 1 Prix Rothschild at Deauville earlier this week.

The Athassel House trainer recorded a breakthrough victory at the top level when La Petite Coco won the Pretty Polly Stakes at the Curragh in June and will continue to seek similar honours for Pearls Galore.

“If you said to me going that we would be fifth I’d have been disappointed. The winner is very good and she stretched them, and we are only a length behind Tenebrism (second) - no excuses, she ran her race," said Twomey.

“She came home in great form and we’ll keep trying to win that Group 1.

“I have half a notion of dropping her back in trip and might even run her in the Ballyogan (at Naas on August 21), the Foret and maybe America after that. The First Lady in Keeneland or I’d even prefer to go for the Matriarch in Santa Anita in December.”

Pearls Galore has won six times for Twomey including four at Stakes level with the highlight so far coming in the Group 2 Lanwades Stud Stakes at the Curragh in May.
