Jim Bolger had a mixed day at Cork with Back To Paris claiming the feature event but odds-on shot National Swagger failing to lose her maiden tag.
Back To Paris took the 32,500 Charleville Handicap in good style under Kevin Manning. The gelding was produced to lead a furlong-and-a-half out and stayed on strongly to beat Deerpark by two lengths.
National Swagger looked to have found a good opportunity to get off the mark in the Mallow Maiden but found Betsen too good in the closing stages after attempting to make all.
Bolger's filly was sent off 4/7f but was nudged along with two furlongs to run and had no answer when challenged by Declan Gillespie's newcomer inside the final furlong.
'He's a big powerful horse. He's a bit immature but I think he's quite good and he'll be a nice four-year-old,' Gillespie said of the winner.
The Cork & Kerry Maiden also saw a short-priced favourite and the John Oxx-trained Behkiyra (1/2 to 2/5f) eventually got the job done after running green.
The Aga Khan filly was asked to quicken a furlong-and-a-half out and although it took a while for the penny to drop she when on to secure a comfortable length-and-a-half victory over Max Almighty.
That's Hot proved too sharp for her rivals in the opening Tattersalls (Ireland) Auction Maiden. Tadhg O'Shea bounced the filly out in front and she kept her rivals at bay to score by a length-and-a-half.
O'Shea picked up a two-day ban, however, after crossing too early from his wide position in stall 14. He will be out of action on June 21st and 22nd.
Bassett Tiger may have earned a trip to England after victory in the Killetra Chase. Willie Mullins' gelding battled well to beat Eskimo Jack by four lengths and could now run in the English Summer National at Uttoxeter on June 26th.
Look Between Us, a winner here last month, emerged on top again in a competitive Kanturk Handicap Chase.
